Here at Hwb Pentredŵr we are driving forward our mission to establish a better market for wool produced on the hills surrounding our beautiful valley. Currently costs far outweigh any return for this truly amazing 100% natural, renewable, and biodegradable fibre.
The style of wool is generally determined by its staple length, crimp, fineness, handle and lustre. Mountain grade fleece is much coarser that some other breeds and also contains kemp, subsequently, it is generally used in the production of woollen carpets. These properties however, also lend themselves to producing a very durable felted material which has great potential.
We are currently conducting small scale research into potential alternative uses of hill grade fleece.
